A CALL TO ABSORB N-POWER 2016 BATCH 'A' INTO THE FEDERAL CIVIL SERVICE

A CALL TO ABSORB N-POWER 2016 BATCH 'A' INTO THE FEDERAL CIVIL SERVICE

The president Muhammadu Buhari led administration must be commended for its tireless efforts towards improving the living standard of the Nigerian youths. The social intervention programme, especially the n-power created by the federal government does not only enhance the financial well being of the beneficiaries but also affords us the opportunity to acquire field experience and skills in various fields of endeavour. Let use this opportunity to express my profound gratitude to our indefatigable presidency for despising the political heavy weights just for our sake. This is a rare privilege though it's government responsibility. My dear fabulous president and the vice, you demonstrated uncommon love the ordinary Nigeria. This is commendable. We appreciate the  iPads given to us free of charge (although some like me are yet to access ours ). The iPads really enhance our functionality. The monthly 750 MB are appreciated. You took us off the streets, clothed us and put food on our table.Thank you so much for giving us hope, may God bless the presidency .
2016 batch A beneficiaries of n-power have faithfully served the country as volunteers for over 2 years while receiving #30 000 monthly stipend. We paid various  fares to our respective places of primary assignment (PPAs ), with some paying upto #2 000 daily. Thus, our stipend was no longer sustainable to us yet we kept faith with the programme and the administration. At the expiration of the 2 years originally scheduled for batch A, beneficiaries were promised ''enhancement'' which was alleged to be an up grade n-power. 6 month after we have not heard anything reasonable or tangible or even convincing about the said enhancement. Now, our faith is hanging in the balance as the administration that founds n-power expires 28th may, 2019. It is against this backdrop that I write to address the presidency and the n-power team through this medium. Here are my reasons why batch A beneficiaries should be engaged as permanent staff of the federal government.
When applications were called for, many people declined the call in that it would be ''business as usual''. But we believed the presidency; we kept the hope and faith with the presidency. We trusted, prayed and supported the presidency and the programme that is now a huge success. The only way the presidency can justify the confidence we reposed in it is to give us meaningful (permanent) employment with the federal government.
Following the above, we were subjected to world class ---online test to determine our eligibility. The test and the criteria for selection were adjudged to free and fair by stakeholders, applicants and observers. This will translate to recruitment into the federal civil service by merit.
My dear president and the vice as well as the n-power team, to return us to the streets is not a worthwhile action, and for us to continue receiving #30 000 stipend is not an option. We need to move forward after two and half years of volunteer service hence permanency is the choice. Please do not be like the pilot who abandoned his passengers in the middle of the sea. If you do, that will surely jeopardize your integrity and reputation accumulated over the years.
The 2016 batch A n-power beneficiaries represent the wretched, neglected and less privileged families of Nigeria. We neither have money nor politicians to help us secure jobs. Absorbing us into the federal civil service will do justice to the ''federal character''. Federal jobs should also be for the less privileged.
One good turn deserves another. Therefore, two and half years of volunteer service to the father land and working experience (in addition to academic qualification) are enough qualifications to earn us federal jobs.
Moreover Mr Afolabi Imoukhuede, the SSA to the president on job creation in a life chat told the beneficiaries during the electioneering campaigns that permanency is in our hands. He said permanency we want requires us to return the president to Aso Rock at the 2019 polls. Now that the president is returned, courtesy demands that the promise be fulfilled without hesitation. We are not just ready for federal appointment but we are also good to go. We played our part, the presidency cannot afford to be found wanting on its side. The terms of the ''social contract'' were clear. Do not eat up your words or violet the contract terms.
Furthermore, leaving the beneficiaries without option or hope spells more doom for the country. We were poor yet we refused to take up arms or indulge in social vices neither did we drag the country to penury. As law abiding citizens, there is nothing wrong with giving us federal jobs. We are all witnesses to the security challenges our dear country is facing. Do not compel us to take arms against government and the innocent citizens before you spend trillions of naira on curbing the menace and rehabilitation/training as is the case in the south south and north east parts of the country. We are not ready to go back to the streets. You can use half a trillion naira  to pay our monthly dues as federal staff and save the rest. Please note: this is not a threat but a truism.
In the last line, Mr president and Mr vice President, as youth we only heard about your integrity that earned you 2015 presidential election. We want to see your integrity . We want to witness it. We want to tell the story of your integrity to the next generation. We want to bear it beyond  what we have heard and seen so far. Ride on the father of integrity in Nigeria. Prove it to us, give us jobs with the federal government to whom we volunteered in service for nearly 3 years. In your integrity we trust.
