COVID-19: We will Not open churches and mosques, Lagos State Government

Lagos - The government of Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria, has said that it has postponed the opening of churches and mosques to some extent in the future. Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu said the decision was made in response to increased cases of covid 19 in the state. Earlier, the state government announced the opening of mosques and churches on January 19 and 21. At a press conference, the governor pointed out that the ban on the immediate opening of the shrines had to do with the increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus in the state. He said in situations like these, increasing the risk of opening religious shrines could put society at risk. "I assure you that we will not continue to open places of worship as we have said before.
