COVID-19: We will Not open churches and mosques, Lagos State Government

  • The government of Lagos State, southwestern Nigeria, has said that it has postponed the opening of churches and mosques to some extent in the future.

Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu said the decision was made in response to increased cases of covid 19 in the state.
Earlier, the state government announced the opening of mosques and churches on January 19 and 21.
At a press conference, the governor pointed out that the ban on the immediate opening of the shrines had to do with the increase in the number of people infected with coronavirus in the state.
He said in situations like these, increasing the risk of opening religious shrines could put society at risk.
"I assure you that we will not continue to open places of worship as we have said before. We will not open temples on 19th and 21st." do.
"We have to re-evaluate our situation on the COVID-19 virus as a state. Our study shows we need to keep mosques and churches open in the state. It will not be open," he said. places of worship this weekend, ”the governor said.


Last week, the Lagos State governor said mosques would be opened on June 19th, while Christian churches would be opened on the 21st of this month.
Prior to this statement, the Lagos State government had expressed its discontent with the public's attitude towards the safeguarding of public relations in the current pandemic of coronavirus.
Already, the people of the state have begun to express their dismay over the Lagos State government's recent refusal to reopen its temples in the state.
Many Lagos residents have been unable to find the majority of residents in the state in recent years who wear masks or wear watches on the market.

The state government has emphasized the ban which includes parks, conferences and clubs across the state.
Recent reports indicate that Lagos State has a total of 7,319 people confirmed to have been infected with Covid-19.
Of that number, 1,137 were recovered and discharged, while 82 died, leaving an estimated 6,100 living under care.
Lagos is at the top of the list when the number of casualties across the country rose to 16,000.
